I’m Sebastian Liste, documentary photographer and mentor.

I approach my work with integrity, passion, and respect, guided by a deep belief in the power of stories to create impact and inspire action. Through the power of images, I aim to shed light on untold realities, evoke empathy, and drive change.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve built a career photographing impactful stories for National Geographic, The New York Times, and TIME Magazine, among many others. My work has been exhibited globally and recognized with numerous prestigious grants and awards. I’m represented by NOOR Images and Leica Ambassador.

Drawing from my experience working at the highest international level, I developed a powerful framework for creating meaningful projects, building a strong professional network, and achieving the freedom and recognition I once aspired to.

MODULE 1

BRING VISION & CLARITY TO YOUR WORK

Great photography starts with knowing who you are and why you create. DEVELOPING STORY IDEAS & A CREATIVE PRACTICE

Strong documentary projects begin with strong ideas. In this module, you'll learn how to discover meaningful stories, refine your ideas into compelling projects, and build a creative practice that keeps you inspired, curious, and consistently producing work with purpose.

MODULE 3

AUTHENTICITY, IDENTITY, AND STYLE

Your strongest work comes from embracing who you are, not imitating others. In this module, you'll define your photographic identity, discover your authentic voice, and develop a visual style that reflects your unique way of seeing the world.

MODULE 4

PREPARATIONS & PRODUCTION IN THE FIELD

A successful documentary project begins long before you press the shutter. In this module, you'll learn how to research your story, prepare with intention, and approach the field with confidence, curiosity, and the flexibility to adapt as the story unfolds.

MODULE 5

ARCHIVE &POST-PRODUCTION

A great project doesn't end when the shooting is over. In this module, you'll learn how to organize, edit, archive, and protect your work with a professional workflow, ensuring your photographs are ready for storytelling, publication, and long-term preservation.

MODULE 6

EDITING & SEQUENCING

The story is shaped in the edit. In this module, you'll learn how to select your strongest photographs, refine your edit with intention, and build sequences that create meaning, emotion, and flow. By the end, you'll know how to transform a collection of images into a compelling visual story that resonates with your audience.

MODULE 7

WORKING ON ASSIGNMENT

Putting your work into the world is just as important as creating it. In this module, you'll learn how to pitch your stories, plan professional assignments, manage budgets, work safely in the field, and confidently deliver your work. You'll develop the practical skills to turn your photography into real opportunities and take the next step in your career.

MODULE 8

FIND BETTER CLIENTS

Finding the right clients starts with building the right foundation. In this module, you'll learn how to create a sustainable photography business, strengthen your online presence, connect with the clients who value your work, and build lasting professional relationships that support your long-term creative goals.

MODULE 9

GRANT PROPOSALS

A great project deserves the opportunity to be funded. In this module, you'll learn how to write compelling grant proposals, build a strong portfolio, present your work with confidence, and create realistic budgets. You'll develop the skills to turn your ideas into successful applications and secure support for your projects.

MODULE 10

YOUR LONG-TERM DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

This is where everything comes together. In this final module, you'll bring together everything you've learned to shape a compelling long-term documentary project, refine your project dossier, and prepare your work for publication, exhibitions, grants, and other opportunities. You'll finish the course with a clear vision, a professional presentation, and the confidence to take your project into the world.
